Hi i have some doubts could u pls clear them...
how can ideas be synonymous with information & catalogue not!

Fazul said...

hey i disagree with your answer for information how can catalogue be correct it has to be ideas as they are not concrete & cannot be synonymous with information. Catalogues can provide info to anyone who looks at it.

Qn is not near synonym....

If Catalogue is not means what is the answer?
Ideas, Data, Facts.

We need answer within these four answers..

exactly 'not near synonyms' all the three catalogue, data & facts can provide information. whereas ideas are just a thought it is not certain and concrete...yes it has to be among the 4 options thats y i say in my earlier comment it shud be Ideas & not catalogue.. so wat say???

Catalogue provides information.

but ideas, facts and data are not providing information. they are(idea, facts, data) information.

catalogue provides data about a book or documents. so,....

see
1. facts are established data that is something true & concrete for eg. DLIS, UNOM offers MSc LIS is fact.
2. data can be information to anyone who seeks it.
3. catalogue u agree provides information
4. whereas ideas are ones thought content like 'i have an idea of doing MSc after UG.' but this statement cannot provide information to the listener..
hence the not synonymous term in the above is ideas according to me
i hope i have been clear

First You understand what is information

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information

, the concept of information is closely related to notions of constraint, communication, control, data, form, instruction, knowledge, meaning, mental stimulus, pattern, perception, representation, and especially entropy.

1.DLIS, UNOM offers MSc LIS is fact(how do you know this fact through brouchure or something else),
2.Data can be information (to anyone who seeks it)
3.Like that, Ideas are ones thought and it can be a information(to anyone who asks)

4. but catalogue provides these information(ides, facts, data)

you are right all the terms mentioned in the choice are all near synonyms but the fundamentals which we study states that information shud be certain & there should not be an element of doubt... in that case Ideas will come under the not so near syn. thats wat i feel.. anyway i ask madam also when she comes back from leave.
